We’ve gotten a lot of new information about World of Warcraft: Midnight this week through the Opening Night Reveal and today’s Developer Panel at Gamescom. Blood elves will be at the center of this expansion’s battle between the Light and the Void. Their city of Silvermoon is getting an overhaul along with the other areas of Quel’Thalas and will become the new main hub for both factions.

Silvermoon City was added to the game in the very first expansion, The Burning Crusade, and hasn’t really been updated since. While all of the Classic zones received an overhaul when Cataclysm launched, TBC zones have remained largely untouched, and those that are not part of Outland – the blood elf and draenei zones – are now the only Azeroth zones where flying isn’t possible. You can’t currently zoom into Silvermoon on your Skyriding mount. In Midnight, that will change.

Silvermoon will be a sanctuary city in Midnight, with Alliance allowed in a specific area of the city. A large portion of the city will remain Horde-exclusive, however. We’ll choose targets for the Prey system in Silvermoon. Our new Delves companion, Valeera Sanguinar, will be based there. One of the dungeons will take place in Murder Row, the city’s infamous central alley. And looming overhead you’ll see the Voidstorm, presumably the entrance to the zone of the same name, which is wreaking some sort of havoc on the area.
